Pace Yourself

Willamette Valley Vineyards, led by President and Founder Jim Bernau, invited the new MBA students to his facility outside of Salem today. We had the wonderful opportunity to listen to him talk about his experience at Willamette and his success since leaving. The lunch was outstanding and the views gorgeous. While there we found out about the teams that we will be spending the next year together with and meeting with our non-profit clients. PACE group 1, who is still nameless, was assigned ARC a company that provides services for people with mental retardation and other disabilities. Our team is excited and has many ideas to help this struggling organization grow and meet its needs over the coming years. The two ideas that were reinforced today were team building and communication. With 10 people on our team we are in the beginning stages of hierarchy building and learning about each others abilities. What a great challenge and opportunity for a bunch of people who just met.

Rope a Dope

August 20th, 2009

As I fell violently down from the platform, my heart thumping loud in my ears, the thought that crossed my mind was not what I expected. After dropping almost 20 feet with my partner the steel mesh wire tightened and began to swing us out over the hillside and up into the massive trees growing outside of Salem, OR. As our bodies began to fall back towards earth we were over 80 feet off the ground, but it felt as if it were 500. Instead of yelling or crying out for help a distinguishable nose lept from my mouth. MOOOOOOO! This strange sound is what all Eager Fushia Bearcats make when they are startled or excited. I was not excited. Today was one of the most fun, distressing, limit pushing days I can remember. Hopefully, the rest of my MBA experience will mirror my thought as I was plummeting towards earth, “I can’t wait to do this again.”

Sorry for the delay

August 19th, 2009

With my new education beginning I will be sharing my strengths, weaknesses and what is new and exciting in the world of marketing. Starting at Willamette University today was extremely tiring, yet fulfilling. It marked a new trail that we will all be taking together. I look forward to the journey.
